Objective
The overall research objective is to gain more knowledge about the molecular mechanisms involved in sexual differentiation in fish. We propose to isolate and characterise anti-Mullerian hormone AMH1 in the European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax ), a species highly used in the marine aquaculture industry , and to analyse its tissue-specific and developmental expression.
AMH possesses a key role in mammalian sexual differentiation, causing the regression of the female sexual duct (Mullerian duct) and subsequently inducing male sexual development. Apart from mammals, AMH has also been isolated from lower vertebrates like birds and reptiles. We believe that AMH will also be expressed and possess a key role for sexual differentiation in fish. The sea bass [sb-] AMH gene will be isolated by screening a genomic library. Positive clones will be sequenced and the intron/exon boundaries of the gene will be established.
