Objective
Dental Health Care affects nearly everyone from youth to old age. Practically 100 per cent of the population worldwide has to undergo a dental treatment from the different subjects in the course of their life. The application of Computer Aided Methods can improve the quality of treatment outcome, increase its effectiveness and enable a patient dependent treatment planning and analysis of the treatment strategy. At present only a few commercially available systems exist that support the dentist (CEREC system in conservative dentistry, Arch mate system in orthodox- tics). But these are isolated solutions that are not open for data transfer bet- wean the different disciplines or have interfaces to individualized biomechanical analysis tools. The ISY-DENT consortium intends to concentrate the research eve- forts in dental biomechanics in the EU, work out common solution platforms and de- fine principles of integrated treatment planning systems for Dental Health Care.
