Provision of Verification

Objetivo

- Recommendations for standardisation of methods and procedures for verification of IBC; and to reduce the need for simplify inter-operability testing.
- Definition of testability and maintainability concepts and proposal of a strategy to introduce the concepts into the design phase.
- Recommendation on a methodology for computer aided generation of test cases (CATG).
- Collection of all information needed to establish a common verification testing and maintenance concept.
- Recommendations on verification access to IBC, supported by test reference configurations.
- Standardisation of methods and procedures for verification via support to R1045.
- Development of prototypes for the following verification tools: system access interface (SAI); signalling control unit (SCU); call generator for load simulation (CGLS).
PROVE takes a leading role in establishing consensus in verification concepts, requirements and procedures, covering areas in integrated broadband communications (IBC) such as inter-operability and automation of test case generation. Feasibility studies were undertaken for the following verification tools;
system access interface (SAI);
signalling control unit (SCU);
cell generator for load simulation (CGLS). Achievements of the project were:
a proposed verification and maintenance strategy;
methods and procedures for inter-operability testing;
a methodology for computer aided test case generation (CATG);
recommendations to reduce inter-operability testing;
requirement specifications for verification tools; a list of key assumptions on main interfaces; completion of a lab prototype of SCU;
prototype of SAI now available to users.
Technical Approach

PROVE takes a leading role in establishing consensus, in verification concepts, requirements and procedures, covering areas in IBC such as inter-operability and automation of test-case generation. Feasibility studies were undertaken for a system access; traffic load generator; and signalling control equipment. These studies result in prototype development.

Key Issues

- Harmonised approach to verification and verification tools.
- Concepts of testability and maintainability.
- Creation of test reference configuration and verification requirements.

Achievements

- A proposed verification and maintenance strategy.
- Methods and procedures for inter-operability testing, plus a methodology for computer aided test-case generation (CATG). - Recommendations to reduce inter-operability testing.
- Requirement specifications for verification tools.
- Feasibility studies have been made and are available for the three tools under development.
- A list of key assumptions on main interfaces.
- Completion of a lab prototype of SCU. Prototype of SAI now available to users.

Expected Impact

The harmonised approach to verification will spare IBC the current shortcomings of ISDN-NB testing.

Computer-aided test-case generation will drastically reduce the delay in preparing tests, thus allowing timely availability of design verification means.

The anticipated development of tools will contribute to an efficient test bed for IBC prototypes and pilot schemes.

The PROVE tool-set is anticipating the user's verification needs from module testing till final integration and field test. Work items have been triggered in ETSI-ATM to prepare standardisation work in the area of inter-operability and CATG.
