Objective
The project addresses the full range of preparations activities leading to full scale trial tests of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) in a number of pilot sites to be located in France, Germany and Italy.
The project activities are to be split into two main phases as follows:
Phase 1 :
1. Completion of the users requirements specifications of the ERTMS-ETCS kernel , including functional, system and subsystem requirements and overall safety concept.
2. Specification of system functional, performance and interoperability tests.
3. Customization of the systems for the foreseen trial sites (on-board and track-side components)
4. Preparation of the file of common technical specifications for the call for tenders regarding the pilot installations for the trial sites.
Phase 2 : Demonstration of the feasibility of the different ERTMS environment components - common kernel and specific and national modules and interfaces - through functional modelling of the system based on software and/or hardware simulation approaches.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
