The project developed a toolkit of analysis techniques, designed to be applied by the railway industry to identify and manage the human factor safety issues in cross-border operation. These techniques may also be applied within a single infrastructure and between different rail operators as a systematic way of improving human reliability within an existing framework.
The HUSARE project results were presented to representatives from European rail operators and rail safety organisations at a workshop organised by the project team. A positive response to the methodology developed within the project was received at this event.
The success of the project lies in the application of the toolkit within the rail industry. Progress in this direction is dependent on the recipients of the final reports, who have responsibility for safety, to promote the use of the HUSARE toolkit within their organisation and to support the dissemination of the HUSARE toolkit and the underlying principles as a European rail standard. These are the necessary prerequisites to achieve implementation at the international level for safe and effective rail operation throughout Europe.
