Trans-European Network Interconnect at 34 Mbps; TEN 34

This project deployed trans-European networking facilities at 34 Mbit/s providing complementary international capacity to allow national research network investments to be exploited on a global basis and maintain the competitiveness of European research. TEN-34 successfully set up a pan-European network for Research. The ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) based service at first supported only existing Internet Protocol based services, but evolved to exploit directly the advanced features that Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) can offer. Full deployment was achieved in 1998.
