Objective
The inert oxides of modern high strength steels are a major problem for hot dip galvanizing. Especially interesting from the industrial point of view are concepts to avoid surface oxide formation by enhancing internal oxidation by increasing the dew point. The idea of the project is to investigate simpler to apply alternatives to these existing concepts, as for example the lowering of the hydrogen content in the forming gas.
Other questions involve whether prediction tools for wettability can be developed by completing the research recently made and how far wettability and adhesion of the zinc coating to the steel are correlated.
