Objectif Phosphorus complexes of transition metals are well known in the catalysis of hydrogenation of olefins. The use of these complexes in oxidative catalysis is not. In this study the production of a phosphorus complex capable of acting as a catalyst in this type of reaction was investigated. The work plan was subdivided into 3 phases: development and optimization of specific phosphine ligands with reduced oxidizability; development of new and improved catalysts by synthesis of low valent transition metal complexes of the ligands developed during the first phase;screening of the catalysts prepared during the second phase by using a large range of test reactions. The research showed the following: the nonvital role of phosphine ligands in the oxidation process;the high sensitivity of the newly developed complexes vis-a-vis organic hydroperoxides, which is not favourable in the framework of oxidation reactions; no industrial applications for the developed complexes, from a catalytic point of view.CLASSICAL COMPLEXES SUCH AS WILKINSON AND VASKA'S CATALYSTS ARE KNOWN TO CATALYSE THE OXIDATION OF ORGANIC SUBSTRATES BY OXYGEN. THEIR TURN-OVER NUMBERS ARE VERY LOW DUE TO THE OXIDATION OF THE PHOSPHINE LIGANDS. WE HAVE TRIED TO IMPROVE THE SITUATION BY USING SPECIALLY DEVISED OXIDATION-RESISTANT PHOSPHINES.
