Objetivo The original aim of the project was to provide a software package for pattern making for clothes combined with databases used for existing patterns with the improvement that the package involved optimization of fit of the models, combined with computer aided design/computer aided manufacture (CAD/CAM).The 3 main types of results from the research project were:data generation of basic cuts with different body types and classification of fit (total of 15 fit classes);an automatic body type translator (hence enabling the above to work automatically);cut construction system with automatic button press interchange between various parameter such as database, body, prototype, model (eg different types of body for different classifications of fit). The results are the first important steps in automation of the clothing industry and have important effects on further production steps regarding throughput time and fit. The system can also differentiate between usage for mass market, and designer market fit (once working industrially).THE FUNDAMENTAL AIM OF THE PROJECT IS TO BASE TWO-DIMENSIONAL DESIGN OF GRADING AND CLOTHING SEGMENTS ON LOGICAL ELEMENTS GUARANTEEING A CORRECT FIT.PROVISION IS MADE FOR CREATIVE MODEL DESIGN ON BASIC GRADING DATA.THIS MAKES IT POSSIBLE TO DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN BASIC GRADING DATAS DICTATED BY FIT AND THE CREATIVE CHANGES REFLECTED IN THE STYLE PATTERN.BASED ON THESE DATA DEVELOPMENT WOULD AIM FOR CONTINUOUS, I.E. NOT DEFINED GRADED TRANSITION FROM ONE SIZE TO ANOTHER.THIS WOULD MEAN A REDUCED SIZE RANGE FOR OUTERWEAR GARMENTS USING CONSTANT ANATOMICAL PROPORTIONS.
