Objectif Two new families of ultrafiltration membranes, called the ETNA and HEKLA families were developed. Each family represents a different surface modification technique, also 2 different porous substrates on which the modifications are made. The 2 types of membranes can be made with different cutoff values in the range of 1000 to 20,000 Daltons.SEPARATION BY MEANS OF MEMBRANE FILTRATION TECHNIQUES IS USED IN A NUMBER OF INDUSTRIES. HOWEVER, THE OPTIMUM HYDRODYNAMIC DESIGN OF MODULES AND THE OPTIMAL DESIGN OF MEMBRANES, FOR EXAMPLE IN CONNECTION WITH FOULING, ARE NOT YET AVAILABLE.ON THIS BACKGROUND THE TECHNICAL OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT ARE IN SHORT TERMS THE FOLLOWING:- EXPERIMENTALLY AND THEORETICALLY TO OBTAIN NEW KNOWLEDGE ON FLUID MECHANICS IN MEMBRANE FILTRATION CHANNELS.- TO DEVELOP NEW MEMBRANES AND MODULES FOR ULTRAFILTRATION AND MICROFILTRATION.- TO INVESTIGATE FOULING PHENOMENA IN RELATION TO SELECTED APPLICATIONS, ESPECIALLY IN THE WATER FIELD.- TO TEST THE RESULTS FROM THE FIRST THREE ITEMS IN PILOT SCALE ON RELEVANT INDUSTRIAL LIQUIDS.
