Objetivo
The technology developed was a flexible automatic sewing unit which is served by a robot called the UAN 3582. The automatic stitching units, which are designed for collars and runstitching, consist of NC collar sewing machines; A 4-axes robot for the machine feed; Separator for the single materials which make up the collar; A vision system (telecamera) and A personal computer for image acquisition and processing.
The fabric layers making up the collar - 2 plus one interliner - have been previously cut and placed on stacks on the separator. They are then separated and transferred into the field of vision of the telecamera. The image is processed by the personal computer, which gives the main position of the 3 layers to the robot. The robot picks up the 3 layers, puts them together in the correct sequence, and feeds them into the sewing machine. The sewing machine then adjusts itself (if necessary) to the correct size, then starts stitching the collar. Next, the sewn collar is laid on a special stacker.
Using this new technology, the only tasks of the operator are setting the machine, and feeding in the stacked 3 layers to be sewn into the separator. After the sewing operation is completed, the assembled collars must be manually removed from the machine. The system cycle is conceived to allow overlapping of the separating, loading and sewing functions, to achieve maximum output.
Laboratory tests of the active system showed satisfactory results. The active guide was mounted on an 855 NECCHI sewing machine. It drives the fabric using the free-wheel fixed closed to the feed dog. The free-wheel and the feed dog are driven separately by 2 oscillating shafts linked by an adjustable transmission. A differential speed between the wheel and feed dog induces a rotary motion of the fabric. The control loop includes and optical sensor of the edge of the fabric which drives the mechanical transmission through an electronic card.

FLEXIBLE MATERIALS IN SEWING MACHINES, INDEPENDENTLY FROM SIZES, STYLES, SHAPE S, ETC.
INNOVATION IN THE PROJECT WILL BE :
- DEVELOPMENT OF AN ACTIVE GUIDING SYSTEM, TO MAINTAIN THE EDGE OF THE MATERIA L AT A CONSTANT DISTANCE FROM THE NEEDLE (TRADITIONAL SEWING MACHINES). - FULLY AUTOMATIC ADJUSTMENT OF SIZES IN N.C. MACHINES.
- AUTOMATIC LOADING SYSTEM FOR SEWING MACHINES.
- EDGE DETECTION OF INSERTED AND PIECES.
