NUMERICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL TECHNIQUES FOR COMPOSITE MATERIALS, STRUCTURAL DESIGN AND VALIDATION IN ADVANCED INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS

Objetivo

A set of numerical and experimental tools for composite materials found in advanced industrial applications have been developed. The computer code is based on the homogenisation method. This method has been extended to new fields of applications. In particular, the acoustic propagation in composite elastic media with inclusions, in piezoelectric media and the elastic behaviour of advanced 3-dimensional structures of composite materials as the texture composite (aerospace, high energy physics and thermonuclearfusion applications). The specific zones of interest of the structure have been reevaluated at microstructural level and the results of the study compared with those obtained through other methods (lamination methods, scattering theory) and with experimental tests.
The 7 different tasks of the project have been assessment of computer techniques for composite materials, physical problems, extension of the homogenisation method to the new fields of application, computer specifications, development of the simulation package, experimental tests (specification and execution) and validation of the computer program and comparison with other methods.
THE OBJECTIVE OF THE PROPOSAL CONSISTS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF A SET OF NUMERICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL TOOLS FOR COMPOSITE MATERIALS OCCURED IN ADVANCED INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS.
THE COMPUTER CODE WILL BE BASED ON THE HOMOGENIZATION METHOD. THIS METHOD WILL BE EXTENDED TO NEW FIELDS OF APPLICATIONS.
IN PARTICULAR, THE ACOUSTIC PROPAGATION IN COMPOSITE ELASTIC MEDIA WITH INCLUSIONS, IN PIEZOELECTRIC MEDIA AND THE ELASTIC BEHAVIOUR OF ADVANCED 3D STRUCTURES OF COMPOSITE MATERIALS AS THE TEXTURE COMPOSITE (AEROSPACE, HIGH ENERGY PHYSICS AND THERMONUCLEAR FUSION APPLICATIONS).

THE SPECIFIC ZONES OF INTEREST OF THE STRUCTURE CAN BE REEVALUATED AT MICROSTRUCTURAL LEVEL AND THE RESULTS OF THE STUDY WILL BE COMPARED WITH THOSE OBTAINED THROUGH OTHER METHODS (LAMINATION METHODS, SCATTERING THEORY) AND WITH EXPERIMENTAL TESTS.
