OPTIMIZATION OF NOISE CONTROL MEASURES IN COMPLEX LIGHTWEIGHT SHEETMETAL STRUCTURES BY USING ENERGY FLOW ANALYSIS

Objetivo


A computer aided engineering (CAE) tool for modelling of the acoustic design diagnostics has been developed based on energy flow analysis. Car body structures can be optimised for acoustical performance and weight in the frequency range 250Hz to 2KHz. Optimisation starts at the concept phase of the body development giving the designers founded information on the quantity of secondary noise control measures required for a particular design. Variation of structural parameters such as base material, thickness and areas can readily be investigated. Geometrical data from sketches or drawings is required for this stage.

Optimisation continues based on measurements made on a complete in white or a trimmed body. here the sound insulation and damping is found and the secondary noise control measures designed complementary to this. Based on an experimental or drawing board model, predictions are made for various sources of noise (eg various powered engines in a single body). Diagnostics and what if calculations are available to get the utmost out of the models. Further to this the sound energy flow paths are determined which can augment the acoustical design.

The tools developed have been validated on two different bodies both in trimmed and white body conditions.
A CAE TOOL FOR THE MATHEMATICAL MODELLING OF THE ACOUSTICAL ASPECTS RELATING TO THE DESIGN OF LIGHTWEIGHT CAR BODY STRUCTURES AT FREQUENCIES BETWEEN 200 HZ AND 2000 HZ IS TO BE DEVELOPED AND TESTED FOR USE IN PROGRESSIVE AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERING.

- MODEL PARAMETERS OF CAR BODY STRUCTURES BASED ON STATISTICAL ENERGY ANALYSIS ARE TO BE MEASURED "IN SITU". A MATRIX INVERSION MEASURING TECHNIQUE, WITH A LEAST SQUARES ERROR MINIMIZATION IS TO BE VERIFIED ON BODIES IN VARIOUS STAGES OF PRODUCTION.

- SOFTWARE IS TO BE DEVELOPED IN WHICH EXTENSIVE DRAWING BOARD SPECIFICATIONS OF A STRUCTURE CAN BE CONVERTED INTO AN ACOUSTICAL MODEL. THE DATA CONVERSION IS TO BE BASED ON BOTH THEORETICAL PREDICTIONS AND EMPIRICAL DATA.
- A SOFTWARE ENVIRONMENT IS TO BE DEVELOPED IN WHICH ROUTINE ACOUSTICAL TESTS ON A STRUCTURE ARE SIMULATED. FURTHER TO THIS, ANALYSIS TECHNIQUES, SUCH AS THE FLOW OF VIBRATIONAL ENERGY THROUGH THE VEHICLE STRUCTURE, ARE TO BE MADE AVAILABLE FOR BOTH PREDICTED AND MEASURED MODELS, THUS GIVING AN ANALYSIS TECHNIQUE ENABLING A DIRECT LINK TO THE DRAWING BOARD SPECIFICATIONS.

- THESE TECHNIQUES ARE TO BE SCRUTINISED DURING A PRACTICAL DEMONSTRATION INVOLVING REDUCTING A PARTICULAR INTERIOR NOISE SENSATION IN A VEHICLE MANUFACTURED BY EACH OF THE INDUSTRIAL PARTNERS.
