CAD/CAM FOR MARINE ENGINEERING, PIPING AND ACCOMMODATIONS IN SHIPBUILDING

Objective

This project created improved CAD/CAM systems for shipbuilding, in the fields of mechanical engineering, piping and accommodation. The overall aim of this research was to increase the industrial productivity and reliability of CAD/CAM techniques used for the design and manufacture of ships. Researchers see this work as a first step towards bringing together computer-aided design and manufacturing into a Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) environment.
THE MAIN PURPOSE OF THE RESEARCH IS TO EXTEND THE CAPABILITIES OF EXISTING CAD/CAM SYSTEMS FOR SHIPBUILDING IN THE FIELDS OF:
- MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
- PIPING
- ACCOMODATION
WITH THE AIM OF INCREASING THE INDUSTRIAL PRODUCTIVITY AND RELIABILITY OF THE USE OF CAD/CAM TECHNIQUES FOR SHIPBUILDING DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE.
THIS IS TO BE ACHIEVED BY:
- SELECTION AND CUSTOMIZATION OR DEVELOPMENT OF AN INTERACTIVE MODULE FOR LAYOUT AND DESIGN OF MACHINERY INSTALLATIONS.
- SELECTION AND CUSTOMIZATION OR DEVELOPMENT OF AN INTERACTIVE MODULE FOR DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE OF PIPING AND DUCTING SYSTEMS, INCLUDING ELECTRIC CABLE-WAYS.
- DEVELOPMENT OF AN INTERACTIVE MODULE FOR LAYOUT AND DESIGN OF SHIP OUTFITTING.

THESE MODULES ARE TO BE IMPLEMENTED AND TESTED ON A SUITABLE TESTBED CAD/CAM SYSTEM (SCHIFFKO PACKAGE FOR SHIPBUILDING DESIGN AND MANUFACTURE).
THE PROJECT AIMS ARE:
- TO REDUCE THE PROJECT LEAD-TIME AND DRAFTING RESOURCES ALLOCATION BY 25 %.- TO PROVIDE A UNIFORM QUALITY IN THE PRODUCT.
- TO BUILD UP THE FRAMEWORK FOR AN EVOLUTION TOWARDS CIM, BY INTEGRATION OF ACTIVITIES AT DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING LEVELS.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.
