FLEXIBLE UNIT FOR REMOVING TEXTILE WORKPIECES FROM A PILE AND OVERLAYING THEM

Objective

This project resulted in the creation of two prototype systems for better movement and increased efficiency of stacked textile pieces used in garment production and other sewing industries. Several separate modules were developed, covering the tasks of de-stacking, gripping, orientation and lay-up, vision, and joining.
THE PROJECT IS AIMED AT DESIGNING AND CONSTRUCTING AN AUTOMATIC, HIGHLY FLEXIBLE UNIT FOR TAKING TEXTILE WORKPIECES FROM TWO PILES OF PRE-CUT TEXTILE PARTS, NOT NECESSARILY OF THE SAME SIZE, CONSISTENCY, TEXTURE AND/OR SHAPE, AND ORGANISING, RECOGNISING, SEPARATING, GRIPPING, RETURNING, TRANSFERING AND POSITIONING EACH OF THE TWO WORKPIECES SO AS TO OVERLAY THEM WITH A VIEW TO MAKING THEM INTO A SINGLE PIECE. THE NEW PRODUCT RESULTING FROM THIS OVERLAYING WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY TAKEN UP BY THE MACHINE WHICH IS TO CARRY OUT THE ASSEMBLY: AUTOMATIC-CYCLE SEWING MACHINE, HOT-MELT ADHESIVE PRESS, SPECIAL MACHINE, ETC.
THE DEVICE MUST BE ABLE TO WORK WITH PIECES OF WIDELY VARYING SIZES (SMALL AND LARGE DIMENSIONS) AND OVERLAY THEM WITH GREAT PRECISION, AT LEAST IN CERTAIN ZONES. WE ARE THEREFORE PROPOSING THE DEVELOPMENT OF A DEVICE WHICH WILL PROVIDE TOTAL SEPARATION OF EACH FUNCTION FROM THE OTHERS, IN ORDER TO DEVISE SUB-UNITS WHICH WILL ALLOW AUTOMATION OF VARIOUS POINTS IN THE PRODUCTION LINE.
THIS FLEXIBLE UNIT, WHICH IS PERFECTLY SUITED TO THE PREPARATORY PHASE (15 TO 20 % OF THE MANUFACTURING TIME FOR A GARMENT) SHOULD LEAD TO THE TRUE AUTOMATION OF THE PREPARATORY CYCLES THAT IS DESIRED BY THE TRADE.
