Objectif
To enhance the Computer-Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) process for melt-spinning synthetic fibres, this project focused on the development of a data-acquisition/sensor system. The system involves installing newly-developed sensors the process, to collect and compile data on the yarn properties. While a complete expert system has yet to be developed, the steps taken add to the goal of integrating the entire manufacturing process.
CURRENT MANUFACTURING ROUTES FOR MELT SPINNING OF SYNTHETIC FIBRES UTILIZE MEASURING AND CONTROL DEVICES IN SEPARATE PARTS OF THE OPERATION. INTEGRATED SYSTEMS WHICH GIVE TOTAL CONTROL ARE NOT AVAILABLE, BUT ARE NECESSARY IF PROGRESS IS TO BE MADE TOWARDS IMPROVING PROCESS RELIABILITY AND PRODUCT QUALITY AND GIVE ADDITIONAL MANUFACTURING FLEXIBILITY FOR COST EFFECTIVE PRODUCT SPECIALISATION.
THE PROJECT WILL REQUIRE THE DEVELOPMENT AND INTEGRATION OF ON-LINE PROCESS CONTROL SENSORS WITH COMPUTER DIRECTED MONITORING AND GUIDANCE SYSTEMS, EVOLVED FROM INTERPRETATION OF PROCESSES IN TERMS OF MATHEMATICAL MODELS, TO HANDLE THE HIGHLY INTERACTIVE AND COMPLEX PROCESS AND PRODUCT DATA.
THIS APPROACH WILL ENABLE THE EUROPEAN INDUSTRY TO REMAIN COST AND TECHNOLOGICAL COMPETITIVE.
