DEVELOPMENT OF ADVANCED INSTRUMENTATION FOR THE PHEBUS FP PROJECT - PRELIMINARY STUDIES.

Objective

THIS STUDY IS EXPECTED TO PRODUCE, IN PREPARATION OF THE PHEBUS-FP TESTS, A REVIEW OF ADVANCED INSTRUMENTATION TECHNIQUES WHICH HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED WORLDWIDE FOR INVESTIGATIONS OF PROBLEMS SIMILAR TO PHEBUS-FP.

THE OBJECTIVE OF THE PROPOSED WORK IS TO IDENTIFY INSTRUMENTS BASED ON ADVANCED TECHNIQUES WHICH COULD BE USED AT THE PHEBUS F.P. EXPERIMENT.
FOR AEROSOL-, HYDROGEN- AND THERMOHYDRAULIC PHENOMENA REQUIRING SOPHISTICATED MEASUREMENT, ALTERNATIVE TECHNIQUES AND INSTRUMENTS WILL BE IDENTIFIED AND EVALUATED.
HIGHLY SOPHISTICATED AND ADVANCED INSTRUMENTS WHICH HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED WORLWIDE FOR INVESTIGATIONS OF PROBLEMS SIMILAR TO PHEBUS F.P. WILL BE REVIEWED. FURTHERMORE ALSO MORE "CONVENTIONAL" INSTRUMENTS WILL BE ANALYSED WITH RESPECT TO THEIR FURTHER DEVELOPMENT POTENTIAL. FOR THIS PURPOSE INSTRUMENTS USED IN OR ESPECIALLY DEVELOPED FOR OUT-OF-PILE (DEMONA, MARVIKEN, LACE) AND IN-PILE EXPERIMENTS (LOFT, FP, PBF) AS WELL AS INSTRUMENTATION FOR NUCLEAR WASTE REPROCESSING AND NON-NUCLEAR PROCESSING WILL BE REGARDED. EMPHASIS WILL BE LAYED ON THE FEASIBILITY OF ON-LINE MEASUREMENT OF TRANSIENT AEROSOL-, HYDROGEN- AND THERMOHYDRAULIC PHENOMENA.
