IN-SITU HIGH RESOLUTION PARTICLE SAMPLING BY AUTOMATIC LARGE TIME SEQUENCE INSPEC.

Objective

THE OBJECTIVE OF THE PRESENT ACTIVITY IS TO PERFORM A FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR THE ADAPTATION OF INSPEC ON THE CONDITIONS OF THE PHEBUS F.P. EXPERIMENTS AND TO IDENTIFY THE DEVELOPMENT WORK TO BE DONE ON THE INSTRUMENT.

THE ACTIVITY IS DIVIDED IN THE FOLLOWING TWO STUDIES:
- STUDY OF THE TECHNICAL PROBLEMS TO BE SOLVED TO ADAPT INSPEC TO THE PHEBUS F.P. CONDITIONS
- CONSTRUCTION OF A TESTING UNIT AND EXECUTION OF TESTS IN CONDITIONS RESPECTING THOSE OF PHEBUS F.P.

THE FEASIBILITY EXPERIMENT WILL IMPLY THE CONSTRUCTION OF A TESTING UNIT WITH A SPECIAL STAINLESS STEEL HEAD AND THE TESTING UNDER THE SPECIFIED PRESSURE AND TEMPERATURE.
THE TESTING CAMPAIGN SHOULD AIM AT ANSWERING THE FOLLOWING BASIC QUESTIONS:

- GAS TIGHTNESS OF THE SYSTEM, FLOW CONTROL AND STABILITY, PARTICLE CONFINEMENT.
- POSSIBILITY OF SPECTROMETER OPENING UNDER THE HIGHEST POSSIBLE TEMPERATURE (WITH 700 CELSIUS DEGREES AS A TARGET) BY PRESSURIZED METAL SLEEVES, POSSIBILITY OF SAMPLING WITH SIZE SEPARATION AND SAMPLE CASSETTE CHANGING.
- FILTER CASSETTE RECOVERING FOR AN EARLY RADIOMETRIC EXAMINATION.

THE FEASIBILITY EXPERIMENT WILL ALSO IMPLY THE CONSTRUCTION OF A CASSETTE PROTOTYPE IN WHICH THE QUARTZ FIBER FILTER WILL BE SANDWICHED BETWEEN TWO GRIDS.
