Objective
THE WASTE WATER FROM THE OLIVE OIL PRODUCTION IS CHARACTERISED BY VERY HIGH ORGANIC CONTENTS. THE DISPOSAL OF THIS WASTE WATER IS AN IMPORTANT PROBLEM THAT COULD BE SOLVED BY USING TECHNIAUES THAT ALLOW TO RECOVER MATERIALS OR ENERGY. THE METHOD NORMALLY USED FOR RECOVERING ENERGY FROM HIGH ORGANIC WASTE WATERS IS THE ANAEROBIC DIGESTION.
ACCORDING TO THE RESULTS OF STUDIES WITH OLIVE OIL WASTE WATERS, THE USE OF THIS METHOD PRESENTS SOME DIFFICULTIES IN WORKING PROPERLY. USUALLY THE PROCESS STOPS AFTER A SHORT TIME FROM THE STAR BY INHIBITION EFFECTS, POSSIBLY PRODUCED BY SOME PRODUCTS PRESENT IN THE WASTE WATER.
THE AIMS OF THE RESEARCH ARE:
- TO DETERMINE THE NATURE OF THE INHIBITION EFFECTS ON THE AEROBIC PROCESS
- TO IDENTIFY A PROCEDURE BASED ON THE USE OF SUITABLE CHEMICALS FOR ELIMINATING OR REDUCING THESE INHIBITION EFFECTS
THE RESEARCH WILL BE CARRIED OUT BY LABORATORY AND SEMIPILOT TESTS.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
