THE SEPARATION PERFORMANCE AND CAPACITY OF ZIG-ZAG AIR CLASSIFIERS

THE RESEARCH CONCERNS THE SYSTEMATIC STUDY OF THE INFLUENCES ON THE PERFORMANCE OF ZIG-ZAG AIR CLASSIFIERS OF THE GEOMETRY OF THE CHANNEL, THE PARTICLE PROPERTIES AND THE COMPOSITION OF THE SOLID PARTICLE FEED. BOTH SEPARATION EFFICIENCIES AND THROUGHPUT CAPACITEIS OF ZIG-ZAG AIR CLASSIFIERS THAT SHOW A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT GEOMETRIES ARE TO BE INVESTIGATED. PARTICLES WITH WELL DEFINED PROPERTIES AND MANUFACTURED FROM A NUMBER OF MATERIALS WILL BE USED AS SOLID PARTICLE FEED TO THE CLASSIFIERS. TO CHARACTERISE THE SEPARATION, THE SEPARATION EFFICENCIES (EXTERNAL VARIABLES) AND LOCAL PARTICLE CONCENTRATIONS, -VELOCITIES AND -TRANSITIONS BETWEEN THE STAGES (INTERNAL VARIABLES) ARE MEASURED. TO CHARACTERISE THE THROUGHPUT CAPACITY, THE MEAN RESIDENCE TIME AND TOTAL HOLD-HUP OF THE CHANNEL ARE DETERMINED.
THE PROGRAMME CONCERNS :
1. DEVELOPMENT OF A SUITABLE FEEDING SYSTEM FOR THE SOLID PARTICLES.
2. DEVELOPMENT OF MEASURING TECHNIQUES FOR THE REGISTRATION OF INTERNAL PROCESS VARIABLES.
3. DETERMINATION OF THE INFLUENCE OF THE GEOMETRY OF THE ZIG-ZAG AIR CLASSIFIER ON ITS PERFORMANCE FOR VARIOUS SOLID PARTICLES FEEDS AT VARIOUS PROCESS CONDITIONS (AIR VELOCITY, SOLID PARTICLES FEED FLOW RATE).
4. TESTIN OF THE EXISTING MATHEMATICAL MODELS FOR THE DESCRIPTION OF THE SEPARATION PROCESS IN ZIG-ZAG AIR CLASSIFIERS. IF NECESSARY, MODIFICATION OF THESE MODELS.
5. FORMULATION OF DESIGN RULES.
6. PUBLICATION OF THE RESULTS IN TECHNICAL AND SCIENTIFIC JOURNALS.
