FEASIBILITY STUDY ON URBAN SOLID WASTE TRANSPORT BY PIPELINE.

Objective

LARGE QUANTITIES OF REFUSE FROM TRANSFERT-STATIONS OR COLLECTION POINTS CAN BE CENTRALISED TO THE FINAL TREATMENT PLANTS BY MEANS OF A NETWORK OF PIPELINES. THIS SYSTEM IS PARTICULARLY SUITABLE IN CONGESTED AREAS, WHERE THE ROAD NETWORK IS OFTEN SATURATED.
THE CONTINUOUS TRANSPORT OF SOLID WASTES BY MEANS OF PIPELINES HAS VARIOUS ADVANTAGES FOR BOTH ENVIRONMENTAL HYGIENE (SAFETY, IT CAN OVERCOME OBSTACLES RESPECTING NATURE) AND TECHNICAL-ECONOMICAL NATURE (SIMPLE PLANTS, LOW CONSUMPTION OF ENERGY, EASY MAINTENANCE AND THE NEED OF A RELATIVELY SMALL LABOUR FORCE).
THE FEASIBILITY STUDY REVIEWS THE VARIOUS TECHNIAUES DEVELOPED FOR TRANSPORTATION OF SOLID MATERIALS BY MEANS OF PIPELINES; IT EVALUATES THE POSSIBLE APPLICATION OF THIS TECHNOLOGY IN THE TRANSPORTATION OF URBAN SOLID WASTES, GIVING PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO THE PROBLEMS ARISING FROM THE HETEROGENEITY (SIZE, COMPOSITION, ETC.) OF THIS MATERIAL AS TO THE HYGIENIC AND SANITARY PROBLEMS CONNECTED TO THE HYPOTHETISED METHOD OF TRANSPORT. THE AIM OF THE STUDY IS TO EVALUATE THE PROSPECTS OF APPLYING THIS SYSTEM TO SOLID REFUSE AND TO IDENTIFY SUITABLE RESEARCH AREAS FOR WIDE-SPREAD APPLICATION OF THIS METHOD.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
