Objective
Neural communication is conveyed by the activity of ion channels. Diverse K+ channels provide cells with signaling capabilities of use for different synaptic activities. This project intends to study the functionnal relationships among the genes that code for molecular species involved in modulation of synaptic activity. The genetics and molecular biology of the nervous system of Drosophila serves as a model system. The behavioural interactions of a potassium channel family (Shaker) and several neurological genes (dunce, Rutabaga, tetanic) will be subject to molecular analysis.
