A MULTIDISCIPLINARY STUDY OF THE PATHOGENESIS OF HUMAN PITUITARY TUMOURS

Objectif

Pituitary tumours are an important and relatively common clinical problem, but very little is known about their pathogenesis.
An important potential site of abnormal cellular function is at the level of regulated gene expression. We propose to compare adenoma with normal hypophysis using a multidisciplinary approach :
standardised morphological charaterization, insitu hybridization purification of pituitary cell populations, 2 gel analysis of cytoplasmic and nuclear proteins and protein-DNA interactions by gel retardation and DNA footprinting. This information should be of great help in improving an understanding of the pathogenic mechanisms which operate in human pituitary tumours.
