Research in string theory and two dimensional conformal field theory

Objective

The group propose to conduct research in string theory and conformal field theory and their application to high energy physics, statistical mechanics and some areas of mathematics. Its ultimate goal is to understand nonperturbative string theory so that it can be confronted with experiment. The main theme of research will be conformal field theory which is the common language to string theory and two dimensional crirical phenomena.
The topics to be investigated are: the modular geometry of string theory, the geometry of loop spaces, the classification and the construction of extended conformal field theories, topological field theories, index theorems and their application to nonperturbative string theory. In parallel the construction of realistic four dimensional models will be developed with application to the study of the structure of the corresponding low energy field theories and of their high temperature properties.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
