DYNAMIQUE DU MANTEAU TERRESTRE ET GRANDES DEFORMATIONS DE LA LITHOSPHERE

Objective

WHAT IS DRIVING THE PLATES AT THE SURFACE OF THE EARTH ?
Seismic tomography just begins to define the distribution of internal loads, which govern the large scale mantle circulation. Satellite observations define the geoid which puts further constraints on the internal dynamics. They also detect small scale processes: hot spot tracks and small scale convection beneath the lithosphere. All this belongs to the fist part of our programme. The second part shall address the following question: WHAT ARE THE NATURE AND ORIGIN OF INTRA-PLATE DEFORMATIONS? The latter produce mountain chains or rifts and sedimentary basins. The attention will be concentrated on the Alpine chain and meidterranean domain, on Asia, especially China and surrounding areas, and on the Andes in South America. Five European labnoratories will combine their efforts and expertise to give better answeres to these fundamental questions.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
