Objective
To prove in real, grid connected conditions, that pv systems are a cost effective and non polluting way to provide electric energy to small island grids. These systems can validly substitute DIESEL generation.
ENEA has developed, in collaboration with ITALSOLAR and ANSALDO, a standard 100 kWp photovoltaic system for grid connected or stand-alone use: PLUG=Photovoltaic Low-cost Utility Generator.
Five other plants of this type are already operating or under construction in ENEA facilities. The present two further units demonstrate the performance of the PLUGs under real conditions and linked to grids.
The new plants are operated by ENEL (public utility) and monitored by ENEA/ANSALDO.
The system cost has been optimised by standardisation of component and of the array architecture.
The systems employ line commuted inverters.
