Objective
This project involves a solar installation for a sports center in Southern France at Uchaud, Charante-Maritime. The glazed collectors provide energy for space heating, hot water for showers and heating of an open air swimming pool. It was foreseen to cover approx. 70% of the space heating and hot water energy demand by the sun. The running cost of the sports center should have been significantly reduced.
No monitoring results exist. apparently the solar installation was badly damaged by frost during winter 83/84.
The sports center has a total building volume of 14 650 m3. The swimming pool was planned to have two pools one of 200 m3 and one of 1 240 m3. The hot water for showers is stored in two 1 000 l tanks. The solar plant consists of two fields one on the roof of the gymnasium (242 m2) and one on the gable wall (82.5 m2) with a total area of 324.5 m2. The single glazed flat plate collectors are first linked to a 15 m3 store from which the hot water is distributed to the different users.
