Objective
To supply pv energy to a remote education/vacation camp in Aroche ( Huelva), Andalusia. This camp serves besides of the holiday aspect, for the education of 10 to 15 years old children in the field of forest-farming.
The systems are in operation since Oct. 1990. No problems of the power supplies, except small maintenance work, are reported.
Problems occurred only at the data monitoring system.
During the summer months the energy demand is high and the system is working at the limit of its capacity: The Diesel back-up generator has to operate or an extention of the system is necessary.
The cost per unit of energy is calculated to be 3.1 Ecu/kWh for the demonstration project and 2.4 Ecu/kWh for a replication.
The plant consists of two centralized subsystems and several stand-alone subsystems :
1.) A central ac system, 13.5 kWp, for one 10 kVA-ac output at one phase, 220 V, for refrigerators, washing machine, kitchen, swimming-pool purifier (circulation pump), etc. and a one phase to three phase, 220 V inverter with variable frequency for the motor of the cold store.
2.) A 2 kW dc system, for dc lighting of street lamps.
3.) Eleven stand alone PV subsystems for indoor lighting and for small ac inverters (tools). Nr. of subsystems : 13

Module description : B.P. SOLAR, type BP 345.
Connection : 19 parallel strings of 16 modules in series (220 V) for the 13.5 kWp system. Two in series for the autonomous 24 V subsystems.

Capacity (Ah) : 510 (centralised subsystem), 510 or 240 or 125 (other subsystems).
Inverter : AEG Transopuls, 10 kVA, supplying 220 V ac on one phase. An inverter from 1 phase to 3 phase, 220 V for the motor of the cold store (LENZE, 2.6 kVA).
Load description : general electrification, cooling room, kitchen appliances, pumps, TVs, etc.
Monitoring : Meteorological data : irradiance (global and tilted), wind. Electrical data : mainly Ah-meters, some Wh-meters.
