PV ELECTRIFICATION OF HUTS AND HOUSES IN N E CORSICA

Objective

To demonstrate on an example the reliable and ecological electrification of an isolated region on the island of CORSICA. There exist several hundreds of similar regions, presenting a high potential for analog initiatives.
All systems are installed and continue to operate to the satisfaction of the users. Satisfaction is proven by the orders of more systems of this type.
Soon after installation the TV repeater power supply was damaged by a lightning stroke and had to be repaired.
The installation on the 6 mountain huts (48 modules) was more difficult than foreseen: helicopter transportation was necessary.
Monitoring : The collection of the monitoring data turned out to be extremely difficult. These and other difficulties induced TOTAL ENERGIE to develop a new product (SUNPAC) for easier monitoring in the future.
(I): 14 (mountain) refuges, owned by the Corsica National Park, are equipped with lights, refrigerators, radios and meteo station. Five of these refuges have an additional water pump.
(II): Three other houses are also equipped with lights, TV, refrigerators, circulation pumps.
(III): Four other users are: TV repeater (Olmeta du Cap), water sterilizer (chlorine dosing of Santa Maria Poggio reservoir), harbour beacon (Santa Maria Poggio), camping (lighting of Mistrali camping).
Nr. of subsystems : 14(I) + 4(II) + 4(III)
Power of subsystems : I: 4. 28 kW (7 sizes between 80 and 560 Wp).
II: 1.2 kW
III: 3.08 kW
Total power : 8.56 kWp
Backup : none.
Number of modules : (I): 107 (14 refuges) + (II): + 10 + 14 + 6 (houses 1 to 3) + (III): + 52 (repeater) + 1 (sterilizer) + 1 (beacon) + 23 (camping) = 214.
Module description : Photowatt type BPX 47 402 (40 Wp) or BPX 47500 (48 Wp).
Connection : one or two in series.
Support : on racks and on the roofs.
Max power tracker : none.
Charge controller : TED type TR 2-24 (or TR 1-24) and TOTAL RC10000.
Battery : OLDHAM and FULMEN.
Batt. (V) : 12 V and 24 V.
Capacity : around 400 Ah.
Inverter : SFEI (3 inverters at different sites).
Inv. in (V) : 24 V
Inv. ou (V) : 220 V, 50 Hz.
Inv. power (kW) : 3 x 1.2 kVA.
Load description : lighting of houses in DC, some with inverters for refrigerators ecc. Electronic dosing pump for the sterilizer. Some loads are connected through a decharging regulator (RD 10000) in order to avoid battery deep decharge.
Monitoring : Measurement in two huts and on the TV repeater: integrated current input and output (Ah) of batteries. Data storage on HP 85.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
