Objective
The projects' objectives are : to provide pv power supply for 38 farm houses; to evaluate maximum application of permanent data recording of small pv systems and radio transmission; to provide maximum maintenance and control of small pv systems by the contractor in an area with a radius of approximately 20 km.
The generally satisfactory operation of the pv power supplies goes on and is expected to continue for some more years, until batteries will have to be exchanged. By this project the isolated houses were economically electrified, despite of the major problems with the inverters. Also lightning damage presented a certain problem.
The data collection and consequently also the maintenance of the systems has turned out to be difficult : the ratio network is obsolete.
The cost per unit of energy is calculated to be 6.0 Ecu/kWh for the demonstration project and 3.7 Ecu/kWh for a replication.
The project application is for users belonging to a cooperative sheep farm which is situated in the village Cabeza del Buey. This region is in the south of Spain, near Cordoba, located within the limits of the provinces of Badajoz (Extramadura) and Cordoba (Andalusia). The dispersed population lives mainly of animal husbandry. The radiotelephone service will cover the communications needs between the users and the cooperative's headquarters for emergencies, requesting supplies, reporting breakdowns, and the data transmission system.
