A 50 KWP PV-THERMAL/PASSIVE RETROFIT ON NTUA'S CHEM BUILDING FACADE

Objective

The utilization of innovative integration schemes of RES elements on the facade of the building, for the prupose of reducing its electrical and thermal loads and, hence, the corresponding CO2 emissions, while improving the thermal and lighting comfort for its users.

The retrofitting effort focuses on integrating solar PV modules as passive elements of the Chemical Engineering Building complex's southern facade, as well as on the construction of a specially designed sunspace on the southernmost laboratory walls, on wich PV modules will be integrated for shading purposes. The convective transport of waste heat from the facade-mounted panels into the building (in the winter) or the venting away from it (in the summer) will increase the electrical efficiency of the PV array while helping reduce the heating/cooling load of the adjacent 'living" space. This project, which is the first one of its kind in this country, is expected to result into :
1. Substantial decrease in the consumption of conventional fuels, with multiple effects :
- energy savings :minimizing the lighting, heating and cooling costs
- improvement of the working environment of students and staff
- reduction of CO2 emissions
2. Acquisition of precious know-how and, more important, demonstration of the application both to the NTUA students - tomorrow's engineers- and to potential users all over Europe for replication.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
