Objective
Three different pv power sources in high mountain region (2360 m height). Innovations : architectural integration of pv modules in the building and high altitude durability of amorphous modules.
See also projects SE./00213/88, SE./00073/89 and SE./00205/90.
The museum (proj. 1a) is operating since June 1989, in winter it is out of voltage.
The pump (proj. 1b) operates since 1988, but is now dismantled for lack of water.
The 32 small systems are operating since summer 1988 during the summer season.
The only possible electricity supply for those isolated huts in natural reserves is by photovoltaics. This project has shown its feassability and has raised amongst the user population much interest for further electrifications.
Project Ia : one roof mounted array, 1. 26 kWp for audio-slide show (in the cycling museum), lighting, cooling, radiophone.
Project Ib : one rack mounted array, 0. 72 kWp for water pumping. (100 m pumping height, with small battery buffer).
Project II : 32 distributed shepherd huts with 45 Wp each, 4 with 90 W each and one with 180 Wp, for lighting and radiophones.
Nr. of subsystems : 2 + 32
Power of subsystems : 1.3 kWp + 0.7 kWp + (27*0. 045W + 0.4 + 4 * 0.1) = (2.0 kWp)
Total power : 4 kWp
Backup : none
Number of modules : Project I : 28; Project Ib : 16. Project II : about 45.
Module description : Project I : PHOTOWATT, type BPX 47451, 45 Wp.
Project II : PHOTOWATT (BPX 47451) + CHRONAR CSB 13E.
Connection : Project I : Two in series (24 V), 2 times 3 and 4 in parallel.
Project II : one cristalline BPX and 4 parallel amorphous CSB13E in parallel.
Support : Project Ia : integrated in roof of cycling museum, Project Ib : on rack,
Project II : on the roofs and walls of the huts.
Max power tracker : none
Charge controller : SOLELEC, type RS 200
Battery : Proj. Ia : OLDHAM, Proj. Ib : SAFT (NiCd). Proj. II: STECO
Batt. (V) : Proj. 1a and 1b : 24 V. Proj. II 12 V.
Capacity (Ah) : Proj. 1a : 1400. Proj. 1b : 52 (buffer). Proj. II : 105
Inverter : For the museum, 1000 VA
Load description : Proj. 1a : 24 V for lighting, inverter 220 V for audiovisual projector and vacuum cleaner. Proj. 1b : dc motor for volumetric pump (0. 38 kW) 100 m pumping height.
Proj. II : 12 V lamps.
Monitoring : Amperhourmeters (Schlumberger/Enertec) on the projects "cycling museum"(I a) and on two sites (Pontet and Chabran) of the project II. Data for two years of seasonal operation are available.
