WATER SUPPLY TO THE CATTLE REARING AREAS OF MARIE GALANTE, GUADELOUPE BY TELE-MONITORING SOLAR PUMPS

Objective

To demonstrate and promote the use of PV powered water pumping for cattle watering on the island of Marie Galante, Guadeloupe. The pumps operate in boreholes with depths in the range from 30 to 112 m, and are fitted with controls which have a remote monitoring capability.

The island of Marie Galante, a dependency of Guadeloupe, FWI, needs to exploit it's good reserves of ground-water in order to reverse the decline of the primarily pastoral agricultural economy. This project proposes to construct 12 strategically placed watering stations using PV powered borehole pump systems. The innovative feature of the equipment is the use of a new interactive controller/recorder which will allow remote monitoring of the system data. In addition, the controller can cut-off the water supply if the recipient has not paid in sufficient credit for maintenance contracts. At least one system will include Enersat satellite transmission equipment to transmit monitored data to a European data station.
The 12 systems are based on 4 system specifications of increasing array power all using 8 modules in series,
coupled to 4" diameter centrifugal pumps via a variable frequency AC inverter.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
