Objective
To satisfy basic electricity needs by pv systems as an alternative to traditional electrification. Different geographical, economical and utilisation aspects are concerned.
The objective of the demonstration project is:
identify representative examples, choosing the optimum design for each situation and realizing the chosen projects in two years.
Most of the systems continue to operate satisfactorily. Weak points (charge controllers, inverters and start-up currents of inadequate refrigerators, Ah-counters) have been eliminated. Much effort has been made to inform the users about the proper use of the systems (avoid overloads) and the good maintenance. Training courses for supervisors were organized, with emphasis on battery controls. Good monitoring data for two years are available.
The cost per unit of energy is calculated to be 4.3 Ecu/kWh for the demonstration project and 3.3 Ecu/kWh for a replication.
Four different utilisations at 13 sites are implemented:
(I): Isolated houses in Nature Reserves.
(II): Mountain refuges in Nature Reserves.
(III): Small villages in areas under the authority of municipalities.
(IV): Isolated houses under the authority of municipalities or other public authorities in Portugal. Nr. of subsystems : 52
Power of subsystems : from 45 to 1600 Wp.
Total power : 26.8 kWp
Backup : DIESEL (already existing for only two sub-systems.
Number of modules : 633 (Photowatt: 338 + TST/AEG: 295)
Module description : PHOTOWATT (13.5 Wp, 338 x 40 Wp, polycristalline. Type BPX47402A, double glassed. AEG (13.3 kWp),
295 x 45 W, type PQ 10/40 HD 45
