Objective
Use of an industrial prefabricated solar Trombewall in low cost dwellings. The solar wall has an internal insulation screen and external shutters. The thickness of the concrete wall is calculated with a computer model. One site is in VERDUN, the other in a mediterranean climate. The system is also designed to cool the houses during the night by using the thermal chimney effect. The system should save 30-50% of the space heating load. The design and the industrialized production are innovative.
First measurements campaign 1993-1994 achieved on VERDUN site.
Second measurement campaign 1994-1995 achieved on Verdun site.
Final technical report -17/06/96
The proposal is to implement and evaluate the technique of the passive solar walls in 2 building plots of 6 houses : the one in the East of France, the other in the mediterranean country. Two objectives are advanced :
- industrial production of passive solar components for the building trade and determination of the best type of solar wall
- industrial confirmation of theoretical analysis findings and experimental results obtained at the pilot stage.
The composite solar walls will be manufactured as part of the GIBAT Component System and will be constituted of a few heavy oven-cured concrete components - solar energy collect of assembly including each a wall element, a parallel transparent panel enclosing a fixed thermal volume and means for circulating the air around the backface of the wall which may or not be insulated.
The face of the wall element facing the transparent panel consists of dark salient natural gravels or may include a large number of cells or horizontal grooves.
In alternance with bearing solar components, integrated secondary components such as glazed facades : windows, glass veranda will allow to build best solar walls.
