PV RURAL ELECTRIFICATION OF 79 ANDALUSIAN DWELLINGS

Objective

To demonstrate that isolated rural areas in regions of high annual irradiance, unconnected to the grid can be electrified by photovoltaic systems. Detailed load analysis in the different sites have been made and the sociological effects in the small rural communities have been studied. (Acceptance of electrification).
The systems operate since October 1988 (on DC) and since October 89 (on AC), but there were previous and subsequent problems with the inverters, especially at the Rio Madera (!). Two sites (I and III) are now to be connected to the grid and the pv systems shall be possibly used for grid boosting.
The knowledge obtained through this project by the contractor (Compania Sevillana de Electricida) to solve technical and social problems is a valuable experience for future pv projects.
79 dwellings are electrified with 39 individual and centralised sub-systems. At the five locations different subsystems are installed.
220 AC: at sites I, II, IV, V: centralized; at site III: individual.
24 V DC: at site IV, V: centralized; at site III: individual.
12 V DC: at site II: centralized.
I: RIO MADERA. 27 houses. At that site, with grouped houses, a new grid has been installed. Local grid: air lines, typically several hundert meters long.
II: LOS MORALEJOS. 17 houses. The houses have already individual.
12 V DC supplies, which have been modernized. An additional grid has been installed.
III: PRADOS DELLA PRESA. 15 houses. At this site with isolated houses, 12 houses have been equipped with an autonomous 24 V DC supply and a 220 V AC supply, three houses with 12 V DC supply. No local grid is installed. IV: FUENTE DE LA HIGUERA. 14 houses. The existing, autonomous 12 V installation has been replaced by a 24 V DC grid and a supplementary grid has been installed.
V: LA CANALICA. 6 houses with systems similat to site IV.
Nr. of subsystems : I:3. II:1(central)+17 indiv. III:15 indiv. IV: 3. V:1
Power of subsystems : I: 2.7+3.6+3.6 = 9.9 kW. II: 2.4 kW +0.8 kW
= 3.2 kWp. III:4.6 kW.
IV:3 x 0.9 kW=2.7 kWp. V: 1.1 kW
Total power : 21.5 kWp
Backup : Diesel (4 kW) at sites I and IV
Number of modules : 396
Module description : 214 ISOFOTON type M-40-L.
62 ISOFOTON type M-75 -L.
120 ISOFOTON type ISO-90.
Some of the modules, used at site I and III, are double-sided.
Connection : connected to 12, 24 od 120 V DC Support : on metallic structures for the centralized systems, sites I and II. On 7 m high steel tower at site IV. On "solar trees" at site III and site V.
Max power tracker : none

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
