LIPARI ISLAND WATER DESALINATION PLANT

Objective

Produce 5000 cubicmeters of drinkable water per year with an improved technology compared to the Tremiti island plant. Demonstrate the economical supply of fresh water by desalination for the case of sites with long transportation. Compare dc motor pumps with ac motor pumps for the purpose of the reverse osmosis desalination.

Pv power for a sea water desalination plant with reverse osmosis system. (5000 cm. per year).

Load description : Three identical reverse osmosis systems, working in parallel. Each system has one DC motor and one AC motor and one AC motor for the 60 bar pressurisation. AC motors for several pumps (sea water pump and auxiliary systems).
Consumption of the reverse osmosis : 6. 5 kWh per cubicmeter of freshwater.
Sea water storage tank of 600 cubicmeters and fresh water tank of 400 cubicmeters (10 days reserve) to reduce the necessary electricity storage in the batteries.
Monitoring : 2 insolation, 8 temperature, 1 wind speed, 1 wind direction, 4 wind load, output currents, battery tensions ecc., measurements each minute, output averages each hour. Seawater pumped,
drinking water produced.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
