Objective
To supply more than 35 isolated houses in rural mountain area with the basic residential electricity supply for light, TV, laundry, refrigeration.
Social and environmental benefits (no Diesels) have been obtained.
The systems on all 35 sites are fully working since November 1989, with dc/ac inverters, and with monitoring. 9 other sites in the area have been equipped with pv systems. Users are generally very satisfied.
The following energy costs are estimated :
Average grid connection (in this zone) : 7.3 ECU/kWh
Autonomous motor generators : 5.7 ECU/kWh
Photovoltaic system : 3.8 ECU/kWh
Photovoltaic system (replication) : 2.2 ECU/kWh.
In the selected mountain region in northern Spain with scattered farm houses (4 to 8 people per house, permanent residence) and shepherd huts (1 to 4 people, 6 months residence) 79 potential users have been identified in five locations (Buixers, Lladurs, Montmajor, Naves, Oden). 56 users showed interest in the project.
35 houses have been selected for the installations.
Two types of standard equipment are implemented:
6 small users: 158 Wp from 4 modules, 12 V batteries and 150 W inverter (220 V) or 29 normal users: 444 Wp or 474 Wp from 12 modules, 24 V batteries and 1500 W inverter (220 V)
Nr. of subsystems : 35
Power of subsystems : 6 x 158 W
Total power : 14.4 kWp
Backup : none (some small generator groups do already exist)
Number of modules : 372
Module description : 240 + 24 = 264 modules ISOFOTON (M-40-L) 39. 5 Wp, 1222x328x52 mm, 5. 2 kg, and 108 modules KONTAKT (KM-34) 37 Wp,
977x467x20 mm, 9 kg.
Connection : 12 V: 4 mod. parallel. 24V: two mod. in series, six strings parallel.
Support : wooden structures and galvanized iron structures on the roofs or on the walls of the houses (2 to 3 storey stone houses)
Max power tracker : none
Charge controler : ATERSA RSC-130 TD and AMBAR
Battery : TUDOR : 12 V and 24 V
Capacity :
Batt. (Ah) : 560 Ah
Batt. (kWh) : 6. 7 kWh and 13. 4 kWh
Inverter : AMBAR
Inv. in (V) : 12 24
Inv. out (V) : 220 220
Inv. power (kW) : 0.150 1.5
Load description : lamps (12 V and 24 V), houses to be equipped with networks DC and 220 V AC, refrigerators, TV, radio ecc.
Monitoring : solarimeters in one typical place. Energy counters for production and consumption in all 35 houses.
