Objective
To provide reliable and economic energy supply for the safety lights of a railway tunnel. The system is designed in such a way that it can be used for other purposes as well (Standard power supply for the railway company).
The Appenino tunnel, 3875 m long, is at present not equipped with safety lights. The tunnel lies about 10 km of the next grid. For the safety maintenance and for emergency cases there are 78 niches, every 50 m, and in addition there are three larger rooms for storage of material. These locations are illuminated by fluorescent lamps (one 9 W lamp in each niche and one 40 W lamp in each one of the larger rooms).
The 10 kWp pv generator is installed on racks close to the wall of the south entrance of the tunnel. The 120 V battery and the 1.6 kW inverter are installed in boxes under the array.
Data monitoring is made with a S.E.I. designed data logger.
