Objective
To supply energy to isolated users by means of small stand-alone pv systems. The electricity is supplied as standard 230 V ac through inverters.
Seven systems originally foreseen at Ginostra could not be implemented, essentially for authorisation difficulties. Some interesting aspects of the project (insertion into the existing buildings; monitoring) could hence not be studied.
Instead of these seven Ginostra systems, seven further systems of the 12 systems already installed at Bazzina by ENEL alone are considered to be co-financed by the EU.
All 17 plants, installed in Bazzina are working without problems after the modification made in May 93 to the inverters and after some other repairs. It is to be noted however, that only two users live permanently in their houses and use regularly the available energy. All others are seasonal users.
Inverters turned out to be the most critical component of the systems. The solution of these problems has lead to deatiled technical specifications for further inverter supplies. Useful lessons were learned on contractual and economical aspects concerning user/utilities relations.
The dataacquisition systems were working on five plants, including the two permanent users. Monitoring data from August 92 to September 95 for five systems are available, however all with interuptions. The reference yields are of the order of 4 kWh/(d*kWp) and the final yields of the order of 1 kWh (d*kWp). The estimated energy cost is 13.8 Ecu/kWh for the demonstration plants and 8.0 Ecu/kWh for an replication.
At Bazzina, on Alicudi island, seventeen private houses (twelve of which sponsored by EEC) are equipped each with a 1.3 kWp system. Here the existing Diesel supplying the grid cannot be extended economically to the isolated village of Bazzina.
Each house has a 110 V lead acid battery, with 350 Ah capacity and an inverter from 110 V dc to 230 V ac (1.5 max. power). Five plants are monitored.
Nr. of subsystems : 12 (all at Bazzina)
Power of subsystems : 12 x 1300 Wp
Total power : 15.6 kWp
Backup : none
Number of modules : 432
Module description : Helios H 30 C, monocristalline 35 Wp, 12 V.
Connection : 9 modules in series (110 V), 4 strings parallel
Support : Alicudi : on racks
Max power tracker : none
Charge controller : self-regulating (by the battery voltage) during charge and controlled during discharge. For unused systems overloading of the self-regulated
batteries presented some problem. This problem can be solved by switching on a resistive load when the battery voltage reaches an upper threshold.
Battery : FULMEN, lead acid
Batt. (V) : 110 V
Capacity (Ah) : 350
Inverter : TELETECNICA : for all systems (110 V dc to 230 V ac, 1.5 kVA.
Load description : 230 V ac, household appliances and electric tools.
Monitoring : Global monitoring with equipment developed by ADVEL on ENEL project.
