SOLAR ENERGY AND AQUIFER STORAGE FOR OFFICE BUILDING SPACE HEATING

Objetivo

To demonstrate that space heating by means of solar energy and aquifer storage is technically feasible and capable of primary energy savings +- 50%. The project is built in Bunnik for the company Bredero.

The office building to be heated consists of three units of 9000 m2 total floor surface and annual heat demand of 660 MWh.
The building is not equipped with a cooling system except for the computer room.
The heating system contains the following components:
- flat plate solar collectors (450 m2, 25 C outlet temp., 285 MWh/yr).
- short term storage (20 m3, 281 MWh/yr, eff. = 0.98).
- long term Aquifer storage (injection and extraction of 18 000 M3/yr, inlet temp. 25 C, outlet temp. 25-14 C, 313 MWh/yr, eff.=0.79)
- gas engine driven heat pump of 200 kw thermal capacity outlet temp. 50 C, 170 MWh/yr)
- conventional gas boiler (76 MWh/yr).
For space heating the waste heat of the computer room cooling system will also be used (95 MWh/yr). The annual gas consumption of the heating system will be 392 MWh. There are three operating modes of the plant:
- Summer: heat of collectors and computer cooling system is injected into the Aquifer
- Spring/Autumn: space heating by heat pump with heat supply from solar collectors and cooling system waste heat
- Winter: space heating by heat pumps with heat supply from aquifer and cooling system and additional heating by gas boiler at low outside temperatures. The solar system is not in operation during Winter time.
