PV ELECTRIFICATION OF 7 DAIRY FARMS IN ALPINE PASTURES

Objective

To demonstrate the use of PV power for milk storage and processing on mountain pastures. To help revive and sustain the dairy activity in the Ligurian mountains.
Five systems (Fronte, Binda, San Bernardo, Alpe Grande and Pian di Latte) operate since early 1993, Garezzo since November 93 and Garlenda since June 1995 to the satisfaction of the users.
Due to difficulties with the DAS (date acquisition system) and with the data transmission system only some monitoring data are available since September 93, however the monitoring campaign is terminated with the final analytical monitoring report. Experience has shown that inverters and standard ac-equipment are better adapted to this kind of use than special dc-equipment.
Seven buildings of the Arroscia Valley Mountain Community are electrified using PV systems which will provides power for milking machines, power cream separators and churns, lighting and in some cases for refrigerators :
Fronte (3.8 kWp),
Binda (2.2 kWp),
San Bernardo (0.8 kWp),
Alpe Grande (3.8 kWp),
Pian di Latte (5.6 kWp),
Garezzo (3.6 kWp),
Garlenda (6.9 kWp) Total 26.7 kWp.
The batteries in the systems range from 200 Ah/48V to 2000 Ah/48V, each providing for three days operation with no sun.
The four larger systems include 48Vdc/220V 50 Hz ac, 2.5 kVa (or higher) inverters of a pulse width modulated type (efficiency of 80% at full load.)
The estimated total energy production during the six summer months is 23215 kWh.
Data acquisition systems (DAS) monitor and record the necessary parameters and then transmit the data to a central system.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
