Objectif
The aim of this project is to provide older properties with modern bath and toilet facilities. At the same time the energy use is reduced in the following ways: By heating domestic water with solar energy, by heat recovery from exhaust air, by passive solar energy, as well as by external insulation of parts of the existing facade.
The actual project has been awarded a first prize for its technical and architectural qualities by the Danish Ministry of Housing in a nationwide competition "Urban Renewal in the Future" in October 1990.
The project demonstrates a solution generally usable in a great part of older properties in Europe. The annual savings will be around 120.000 - 145.000 kWh. The expected payback time will be 11-13 years.
Results obtained during the measurement phase shows that the energy performance of the project features
- solar collectors
- ventilation heat recovery
- passive solar gain
- envelope insulation of facades
is lower than the estimated energy performance.
The annual energy savings are found to be approximatively 10000 KWH and the resulting simple pay-back approximatively 100 years.
Measurements of indoor-climate parameters Temperature and Relative Humidity have indicated, that the residents use of the un-heated glass-verandas is not energy-efficient; this parameter is found very important when executing demonstration projects in general.
Attempts to improve the future residential energy-related behaviour will be made.
It is believed, that optimization of the energy saving gain from the various project features can improve the energy savings/gain to an extend where the estimated Simple pay-back time will be approximatively 25-30 years.
Direct replication of the project has not been executed although efforts have been made The markets potential is still believed to be high.
With respect to technical reliability, residential comfort and architectural design, the project has been very successful.
The innovative element lies primarily in the development of a concept for using solar energy when renovating older properties and inner city areas where old fashioned installations and a high energy consumption are found. The general usability of this concept in Europe will make it possible to upgrade older properties to modern standards with an optimized use of solar energy.
The potential market, especially in Eastern Europe, is big. In these countries the needs for both modern facilities as well as better use of energy are high.
The technical innovations are concerned especially with the establishment and use of solar collectors, but are also reflected in the architectural expression of the existing building, combined with the use of passive solar energy as well as heat recovery from exhaust air.
The aim of this project is to provide older properties with modern bath and toilet facilities. At the same time the energy use is reduced. In relation to energy consumption the projectdemonstrates the following :
. Use of solar collectors on the south or west facing roofes for heating of domestic water.
. Use of passive solar energy for heating of rooms.
. Heat recovery from exhaust air.
. Extra insulation of the existing facades through the establishment of bath and toilet towers.
The towers express a high architectural quality which respects the existing buildings architectural style.
The actual project has been awarded a first prize for its technical and architectural qualities by the Danish Ministry of Housing in a nationwide competition "Urban Renewal in the Future" in October 1990.
The project demonstrates a solution generally usable in a great part of older properties in Denmark. At the same time it is usable in many other parts of Europe, not least in Eastern Europe where many properties in Denmark. At the same time it is usable in many other parts of Europe, not least in Easten Europe where many properties lack elementary facilities such as bath andtoilet, and where at the same time the energy consumption in these properties are proportionally high.
The energy savings compared to the actual cost of this project, makes it realistic to obtain a payback time of approx. 11-13 years.
