Intrusion Detector Testing (IDT) - Development of methods and equipment for the measurements of the response threshold of volumetric intrusion detectors

Objectif

The objective of this project is to develop a suitable test method and to design and produce the associated apparatus.
Clearly the successful results of this project will benefit standardisation bodies and manufacturers by providing a means for more accurate assessment of detectors. It will provide product manufacturers with a faster route to the market place, by avoiding unnecessary duplication of tests at different laboratories. This in turn is likely to reduce costs and increase exports.
Mid 2000 the IDT project have manufactured the first Prototype of the Intrusion Detector Testing Apparatus and the equipment has started its travel amongst 3 partner sites, where a benchmark testing and evaluation of the model are carried out.
End 2001 it is planned that the Stability Test Apparatus will be commercially available to Test Houses as well as to Alarm Detector manufacturers. a
Background: On account of the rapid increase in crime, the number of installed intrusion alarm systems have risen sharply in recent years. The total number of detectors manufactured in Europe per year is approximately 5 million amounting to a market value of 200 MECU. The value of items being protected by such systems exceeds this value many times. However, there is a definite lack of consistency in the requirements between the national standards and vastly differing test methods, none of which could provide an adequate level of reproducibility of type approval testing of volumetric intrusion detectors. Objectives The objective of this project is therefore to develop a suitable test method and to design and produce the associated apparatus, which can be prescribed in the EN standards being prepared by CLC/TC79-WG2.

Clearly, the successful results of this project will benefit standardisation bodies and manufacturers by providing a means for more accurate assessment of detectors. It will provide product manufacturers with a faster route to the market place, by avoiding unnecessary duplication of tests at different laboratories. This in turn is likely to reduce costs and increase exports. By mid 2001 the Stability Test Apparatus will be commercially available to Test Houses as well as to Alarm Detector manufacturers.

Work programme: Following an initial examination of existing methods and ideas, the feasibility of new concepts is investigated and the Stability Test Apparatus shall be designed and developed in a two-step procedure. Semi-Round-robin test of the different models are planned at the facilities of all project participants. Eventually, a draft of the future standard for testing of intrusion alarm detectors shall be presented to the CLC Committee. An open conference on the interim results is planned for mid 1999. State of progress Initial study of methods and specifications of the future Test Apparatus are finalised.

Programme(s)
