AUTOMATION OF FOUNDRY FETTLING USING ABRASIVE WATER JET CUTTING (IMPLEMENTATION PHASE)

Objective

FOUNDRY FETTLING IS DIFFICULT AND COSTLY WITH PARTICULAR ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS. THIS PROJECT WILL IMPLEMENT A SYSTEM FOR AUTOMATED FETTLING COMBINING WATER JET CUTTING, ROBOT AND SENSING TECHNOLOGIES. THESE TECHNOLOGIES WILL NEED TO BE ADAPTED TO SUIT THE PARTICULARLY HOSTILE ENVIRONMENT AND WORKING CONDITIONS. TWO PILOT FACILITIES ARE PLANNED WITH A SERIES OF TRIALS FIRSTLY AT SITES IN DENMARK AND THEN A FULL SCALE DEMONSTRATION IN GERMANY USING A MORE COMPLETE SYSTEM. THE EXPERIENCE GAINED FROM THE PILOT SITES SHOULD LEAD TO A INTEGRATED SYSTEM PROVEN FOR IN A VARIETY OF FETTLING OPERATIONS.
