Objective Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), especially craft companies, stand to benefit from developing international electronic links with professional organisations and enterprises in other countries. The SME-WEB project will train companies to use the World-Wide Web and Internet for their own needs, gaining inexpensive access to up-to-date international information and services. This will promote competitiveness, enhance market prospects and foster the establishment of commercially useful international links via a trans-European network tailor-made to their requirements. A pilot training programme will be established for SMEs in Austria and Italy, which once evaluated will enable a development plan to be drawn up, encourage more SMEs to join, and increase the exchange of information among members of the project partners.
