Objective
To lay a 12" flexible at 550 m depth.
The extension of power budget of the syledis system has been proved effective both for long range extension and reliability and accuracy of distance measurements. The use of space diversity aerials and proper setting up on antennae in conjunction with booster amplifiers has been particularly efficient. The implementation and use of kalman filtering in ucm was also successful.
From 1976 to 1983 inclusive, the following equipment has been manufactured and set into operation for oil prospection all over the world:
195 - booster amplifiers and filters
120 - antenna switches for space diversity purpose
140 - ucm microprocessor - controlled unit.
(see also th-07015-77-fr).
At an earlier stage, we have manufactured a prototype and simulated on land the working conditions of the flexible:
- hydrostatic crushing due to external pressure
- static axial traction
- dynamic movements.
a) To determine the resistance to collapse (55 bar) with the outer layer pierced, the following material was used:
- compression chamber
- pressure delivery system
- reduction in volume measuring system
- measuring thermometer.
Before being put into the chamber, the flexible is filled with water and connected to the measuring system. While the pressure in the box is increasing, the flexible, decreasing in volume, expels some of the water which it contains. This water, collected in a graduated cylinder, gives the amount of the volume decrease.
b) To verify the tensible strength (160t), the force corresponding to a flexible submerged at 550 m, the following material was used: - a tensile machine
- measuring apparatus.
The sample was held at one end on afixed point of the bank by a ferrule, the other extremity was attached to the jack of the traction block.
c) A study of the behaviour of a flexible laid on the bottom but not touching the soil and therefore exposed to cyclical forces by the current was examined with the aid of a fatigue machine.
The bending is given by the inclination of the jaws which hold the extremities of the flexible, rotation being implicit in this arrangement.
