MOBILE PLATFORM FOR POWER GENERATION BASED ON THE GAS PRODUCTION OF SMALL OIL FIELDS

Objective

It is aim of this development project to prove the economic and technical viability to utilize marginal gas fields and associates gas for power generating purposes.
Platform concept.
According to the bordeline conditions mentioned under para.
2 we have found out, during the concept phase, which ended in april 1977, that a floatable jack-up platform carrying the power station would be the most suitable solution.
It is foreseen that the platform will be set up on a lower structure which has specially been designed according to the prevailing local conditions.
It was found that the most economic position for the joints should be approx. - 10,0 below the surface.
The overall dimensions : 66 x 66 x 24 m
Load carrying capacity for accommodations and equipment: 9,000 Tons Proposed location : southern and central north sea
The special devices of the jack-up system permits to make the set -up during 70% of the prevailing weather conditions during the summer.
Power station
During the conception phase we have investigated the following power generating cycles:
Gas turbines only
Combined cycle with waste-heat boiler
Pressurized furnace boiler with gas turbine.
It was found out, the combined cycle with waste heat boiler produced the lowest generating costs up to 400 km distance from the coast. This holds true for primary energy prices who are within the production costs and return expectations of the oil companies providing the gas.
Energy transfer.
For technical reasons, the energy transfer can only be achieved by means of a high voltage direct current system. Only this system permits the transport of electric energy over large distances by sub sea cables.
The evaluation of already existing cables placed on the surface of the sea bottom revailed the relative sensivity against damage of the so placed cables. Subject of the study is also to evaluate existing trenching methods in view of their performance and to propose eventually corrective action.
For reasons of economic comparison we have taken the "bundesrepublik deutschland" as a significant area of consumption . Price of electric power and primary energy costs in this region are taken as valid for this calculation. Within the framework of this study the conditions of existing marginal fields are investigated and the possible prices for the supply of n. G.
Are calculated. Operating time on one location in a marginal field with a production of approx. 300 to 600 mw is assumed to be 5 to 7 years.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
