INCREASED PRODUCTION CAPACITY BY TFL TECHNIQUES

Objective

Following the successful completion of eec contract 03039-77, it decided to attempt to enhance tfl techniques by making feasible the use of larger diameter flowlines and improved tool application for subsea templates. Contract 03057-78 was signed to support work in this respect.
Testing the carrier tool indicated a high degree of reliability for this equipment. The selector design was shown to be generally feasible though improvements in its remote control system were found to be necessary.
The project consisted of the following:
1. The development and testing of a 4" x 2" carrier tool system to allow the use of larger diameter flowlines to satellite wells.
2. The development and testing of a 4" flowline 6-way selector to divert tool strings to any one of several wells in a manifolded subsea completion.
Extensive modifications were made to the eakring test facility to facilitate the installation and testing of these systems.
Comprehensive testing of the carrier tool occupied a period of 6 months: the selector was tested over period of 3 months.
