Objective
The purpose was to study main factors to the most realistic subsea production systems, based on maintaining the greatest possible number of production equipment on the surface.
RISER IN COMPOSITE MATERIALS:
Tubes of composite material were built with new glass fibres and carbon fibres. Cyclic bending tests performed on pipes of 4" id - 350 bars service pressure were successfully performed.
SUBSEA MANIFOLD
Study of modular equipment for simplifying the maintenance operations required on the fluid distribution valves of manifolds has resulted in the construction of a prototype module. This module and associated equipment were successfully tested within the framework of contract TH/03080/79-FR.
WORK INSIDE THE WELLS
Use of extensions in positioning pumped tools enables doubles completion inside wells to be avoided. The installation of safety valves at considerable depths (40 metres) below the wellhead for single completion has been successfully tested, using these extensions.
SAFETY - RELIABILITY
Systematic analyses by the "faults flowchart" method employed in the nuclear industry has brought about improvement to the production riser, manifold and flowlineconnection systems. These analyses were highly effective in the flow line connection test preparation.
Combustion of the associated gas during certain purging or emergency operations requires that a method of calculating the effects of thermal radiation be available. A mathematical model of this radiation where no wind is present has been made and tested. Unfortunately, the model studied turned out to be unsuited when the wind factor was taken into consideration.
FLOWLINE CONNECTION AND LAYING
A fully automated test for connecting and laying flowlines involving towing of the flowline a few metres above the sea bed has been studied so as subsequently to be able to perform sea trials in deep waters. Sea trials of this method were very successful.
The programme concerned complementary studies for components and basic techniques:
- studies: flaring, loading station, safety
- studies, prototypes construction and tests: risers made of new materials, work tools for risers and their associated manifold, intervention techniques in wells
- preparation of a test for flowlines laying and connection.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.
